چکیده

Prematurity, haemorrhage, and erythroblastosis are common causes of anaemia in early infancy, while infection and congenital iron deficiency are relatively unimportant causes in the early months. The Anaemia of Prematurity.?Anaemia is common in premature infants and its severity varies directly with the degree of immaturity. There are two distinct phases of anaemia in premature infants. The first phase occupies the third and fourth months and is merely an exaggeration of the physiological haemolysis which occurs in mature babies in the early months of life. It is a hyperchromic anaemia of obscure mechanism. In very small babies haemoglobin levels of about 50 per cent., or less, and red counts of about two millions are not uncommon.
